MyYaad swaps two kinds of details: the ones you save in your vault — names, addresses, companies, anything you choose — and the ones it detects automatically: email addresses, phone numbers (UK, US and international), credit-card numbers, bank IBANs, API keys and similar secrets, US Social Security, ITIN and EIN numbers, UK National Insurance and UTR numbers that pass their checks, Indian Aadhaar and PAN numbers and Canadian SINs, plus national ID numbers from the UAE, Ghana, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Pakistan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Ireland, Sri Lanka and China. Some details, such as dates of birth, passport numbers and postcodes, it notices but sends as you typed them. Save them in your vault to swap them.

Privacy is architecture, not policy — and that cuts both ways. Here’s exactly where the architecture protects you and where it doesn’t, so you use AI with eyes open.
- Your typed prompts. MyYaad swaps the details you save and the ones it detects automatically for realistic stand-ins before the prompt leaves your device. This is the channel MyYaad is built to protect.
- Documents you bring in through MyYaad’s Documents page, for supported formats. Some document structures are still being improved.
- Files you attach directly in the chatbot. MyYaad does not protect files attached with a chatbot's own upload button today. Use MyYaad's Documents page for supported documents instead.
- Details MyYaad does not swap. Details you have not saved and it does not detect automatically, and the ones it notices but does not swap yet — dates of birth, passport numbers and postcodes. These are sent as you typed them. Check the pre-send preview.
- What the model already remembers about you. If you used ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini before MyYaad (or with MyYaad off), those providers may already hold your real details from past chats — and may use them in replies. MyYaad swaps details in what you send now; it can’t retract what a model already stored. Tip: clear the chatbot’s saved memory / custom instructions before relying on MyYaad.
- What a connected tool hands the model directly. If an integration (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, an MCP connector) reads your real data and feeds it to the model, the model sees the real thing through a channel MyYaad never touches. MyYaad works on what you type and bring in through its Documents page, not on what a tool feeds the model.
Read “MyYaad protects my data” as “the details MyYaad swaps aren’t in the prompts I send” — not “this AI can never know anything real about me.” Saying it plainly is the brand.

Is MyYaad just for compliance roles or for everyone?
For everyone. People use it for everyday AI work — drafting, thinking, life admin. Some professions have extra obligations, so there are pages for them. For organisations there is an early self-hosted beta; see MyYaad for teams.
Does MyYaad work with ChatGPT?
Yes. MyYaad’s Chrome extension supports ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok and Perplexity. Each provider gets a different stand-in for the same real detail, so stand-ins seen by different providers do not match each other.
Does any of my data leave my device?
The details MyYaad swaps do not leave your device: the AI provider receives a realistic stand-in instead. Anything MyYaad does not swap is sent as you typed it — check the pre-send preview. The Chrome extension talks only to the desktop app on your computer, through the loopback address 127.0.0.1:3000. Your saved details stay in a vault folder on your computer.
Is MyYaad really free?
Yes. The core privacy features are free forever — unlimited vault entries, all six supported chatbots, a different stand-in for each provider, pre-send preview. The app needs no account. We plan to make money from paid tiers and services for organisations — not from your data.
Does MyYaad work on Windows?
Yes. MyYaad runs on Windows 10 and later (64-bit) and on macOS 12 and later, with a Chrome extension for Chrome and Edge. Linux is not supported yet.
What happens if I attach a file directly in ChatGPT?
MyYaad does not protect files attached with a chatbot's own upload button today. Use MyYaad's Documents page for supported documents instead.
What does MyYaad NOT protect?
MyYaad swaps the details you save and the ones it detects automatically in the prompts you type and in the documents you bring in through its Documents page. It does not protect files attached directly in a chatbot, details it does not swap, what an AI provider already remembers about you from past chats, or data a connected integration (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, an MCP connector) hands the model directly. Does MyYaad work with GitHub Copilot or Cursor?
No. MyYaad covers six chatbot websites in Chrome: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek, Grok and Perplexity. It does not cover IDE assistants.
Is MyYaad open source?
Not today. The vault is a folder of plain files you can open and inspect, and the architecture is documented on the How It Works page.
Can my firm use MyYaad?
Each person can install the free app today. For organisations there is an early self-hosted beta. MyYaad is not a company-wide enforcement layer today. See MyYaad for teams.
Is MyYaad HIPAA / FERPA / SRA compliant?

How is MyYaad different from a [NAME] redaction tool?
Some privacy and redaction tools replace details with labels such as [NAME], which can confuse the AI. MyYaad uses realistic stand-ins for the values it swaps, so the answer reads naturally, then swaps your real details back on your screen.
Does each AI provider see different stand-ins?
Yes. MyYaad uses HMAC-SHA256 with a unique salt per provider, so the same saved name reaches ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini as three different stand-ins — ChatGPT might see Ethan Anderson, Claude Sofia Rivera and Gemini Marcus Lee. Stand-ins seen by different providers do not match each other.
Why not route prompts through a cloud firewall?
A cloud firewall sends your prompt through someone else’s server before stripping it, so that server sees it. MyYaad does the swap on your device, so the details it swaps never touch a network.
Why not use a private AI chatbot instead?
